Having grown up in a military family I was exposed to industrial design sensibilities at a early age. My father welded his way around the world for the U.S. Army and brought his methods and experience back home to his family's garage. He started teaching me the fundamentals of welding and fabrication at a very young age.
After years of projects together my work started to take its own direction. As a teenager I started making furniture and elaborate art pieces. By twenty-two I had opened my first shop and started taking on art projects and doing general fabrication to keep the lights on. After years of fabricating other peoples' projects my inner creativity needed my full attention.
Residing in Phoenix Arizona, I find my current materials of choice in a city full of industrial, electronic and military manufacturing history. With items sourced from such diverse products as old manufacturing machines, aircraft, cars, household fixtures and who knows what, my robots come alive with the history of the donor machine parts. People always ask me "where do you find your parts?", I like to tell them "pick one up and I can tell you its history". My parts are found hiding out in junk yards, old business, yard sales, friends garages and swap meets. The endless hunt for these parts brings me to some very interesting places full of even more interesting people all the time. Its really rewarding to talk to people about their collections of random parts and rescue some of their "junk" and bring it back to the studio for a second chance. My work is always evolving as I discover new parts, sources and techniques...........Stay tuned...
